Dr Angus Alexander

Paediatric General Surgeron & Paediatric Urologist

About Dr Alexander

Dr Angus is both a Paediatric General Surgeon and a Paediatric Urologist.

During his training as an adult General Surgeon, he rotated through a busy paediatric Burns unit. It was there that he discovered his passion for working with children. What appealed to him were their positive attitudes, strength, and resilience, while the technically exacting surgery they required appealed to the perfectionist in him. As soon as he qualified, he applied for subspecialist training and became a Paediatric Surgeon in 2006. A fellowship in Paediatric Urology at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto followed in 2008.

He possesses an uncommon combination of skills that gives him the unique ability to treat a wide variety of childhood surgical problems.

He has been married to his wife Ceiri for 16 years. They live on the North Shore but spend most of their working days at Westmead Children’s Hospital. They have three great kids with very different strengths and personalities. As a parent of a child who required surgery, he has first-hand experience of the stress and anxiety that the prospect of an operation on a child induces. Strangely, he also appreciates the unique insight that the journey has given him. He likes to think his experience has made him a more empathetic Surgeon.

Most of the children he sees will not need a surgical intervention. In many instances, he will be able to reassure parents that the “problem” is a variant of normal. If surgery is required, he will endeavour to give parents and their child a good understanding of the problem, the surgery required, and which Hospital would be best for their child and the surgery they require.

He enjoys questions, and they are always welcome.
